Hosted by Musicus Society, the Musicus Fest will present ten concerts from 1 November to 15 December, offering a rich feast of music for enthusiasts. Under the curation of Musicus Society's Artistic Director Trey Lee, the festival will feature the English Chamber Orchestra, as well as musicians from Finland, Australia and Canada, alongside young Hong Kong musicians returning from their studies overseas.
Artistic Director Trey Lee says: 'For the past fifteen years, Musicus Society has been dedicated to promoting music through cross-cultural exchange, bringing together artists from Hong Kong and around the world to create unforgettable concert experiences. This year, I am honoured to collaborate once again with the English Chamber Orchestra, as well as to present the Musicus Soloists Ensemble, guest concertmasters and award-winning soloists. I look forward to immersing myself in the classic melodies with the performers and audience, and witnessing the Society's continued growth as an international cultural exchange hub.'
English Chamber Orchestra Presents Two Concerts
The English Chamber Orchestra has toured extensively in the UK and abroad, earning an eminent reputation on the international music scene. Musicus Society is delighted to present them in two programmes. On 1 November, the opening concert will commence with Tchaikovsky's 'Autumn Song' and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 'Pastoral', followed by the highlight of the evening – Piazzolla's 'The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires' arranged and performed by Trey Lee. The work blends classical, jazz and tango styles, and its album recording was praised by BBC Music Magazine as 'brilliant playing, utterly beguiling.'
On 2 November, the Orchestra will perform at the Tuen Mun Town Hall. Harmonic Hour will be hosted by Wong Wan-wah, who will guide the audience through a journey of imagination with the music of Beethoven, Telemann and other composers, complemented by a solo performance from young violist Lok Hoi-yan, Vincent. In 60 minutes, the concert will take the audience from the wonders of nature to the world of Viennese waltzes, showcasing the ever-changing delights of classical music.
Double Champions of the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition and Mobile Artists
The young members of the Musicus Soloists Ensemble include multiple award winners from international competitions. The ensemble has represented Hong Kong on stages across European cities, performing alongside top international soloists. Following their mainland premiere in Shenzhen Concert Hall on 5 December, the ensemble will perform in the festival finale in Hong Kong on 7 December, featuring the double champions of the 2024 Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition – Chen Tianyan and Kolyadin Kirill – who will respectively tackle two highly challenging Baroque solo pieces: Locatelli's 'Labyrinth of Harmony' and Tartini's 'The Devil's Trill'. The programme will also include Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, as well as Vivaldi's Concerto for Violin and Cello performed by Trey Lee and Finnish violinist Panu Veijonsuo. In addition, the ensemble will collaborate with mobile artists in a groundbreaking performance.
Winner of the Young Musicians Recruitment Debuts at the Festival
On 15 November, Next Generation Virtuosi concert will feature violist Lok Hoi-yan, Vincent, winner of the 2025 Young Musicians Recruitment, in a remarkable debut. This rising star has been selected three times for the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland and is currently pursuing further studies in the music capital of Vienna.
